The End Is At Hand

1 Pet. 4:7 – “The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.”

  • The end of the world is quickly approaching.
  • The end of your earthly relationships as you know them is quickly approaching
  • The end of your pursuit of purposeless pleasure is quickly approaching
  • The end of your earthly time with your children is quickly approaching.
  • The end of your days upon the earth is quickly approaching
  • The end of your time with your husband or wife as you know it is quickly approaching
  • The end of your time to accomplish your goals upon the earth is quickly approaching
  • The end of your opportunities to say the things you know need to be said is quickly approaching
  • The end of your opportunity to repent and trust Christ is quickly approaching
  • The end of your God-given time of preparation for eternity is quickly approaching
  • The end of your earthly tomorrows is quickly approaching
  • The end of your procrastination is quickly approaching
  • The end of your opportunity to love the pilgrim Church is quickly approaching
  • The end of your opportunity to reconcile relationships is quickly approaching
  • The end of your opportunity to tell someone the saving gospel is quickly approaching
  • The end of your opportunity to hand someone a cool glass of water in the name of Christ is quickly approaching
  • The end of your time as a steward while the Master is away is quickly approaching
  • The end of your opportunity for intercessory prayer is quickly approaching

Sobering…to say the least. Nevertheless, needful. Many people are barreling down the railroad of life toward the final destination of regret. If you find yourself in a seat next to them, get off that train. Is it any wonder that Peter follows such an assertion as “the end of all things is at hand” with an admonition to be “self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.” Self-control and sober-mindedness are essential to avoid squandering the time we have left on this side of eternity. As one writer has said simply: Don’t waste your life.

  1. wow! awesome reminders to wake us up and make us think about what it is we’re doing and where we’re investing our time. we always tend to think that we have so much time…my prayer lately has been that the Lord would help me to make the most out of every opportunity.
    Thanks Billy!
