I mentioned in a prior post that I had been contemplating Christian joy in my studies lately. A friend sent me a note on a sermon by Jonathan Edwards that he thought I might appreciate. I will borrow his summary here.
The sermon is entitled “Christian Happiness” and can be found online at the Jonathan Edwards Center at Yale University. In this sermon, Edwards is seeking to answer the question: How can a Christian continually find happiness in the midst of unrelenting pressure and trial?
Edwards basically answers this question with the following three points which serve as a foundation upon which “Christian Happiness” can be built and flourish:
1. All of your bad things will be turned for good.
2. Your good things cannot be taken away from you.
3. The best is yet to come.
