What are you going to talk about at Easter dinner?
Can I urge you to do something that (for some of you) quite possibly might make you the most annoying person at the family gathering this year? Can I urge you to unashamedly talk about the cross of Christ?
Go tell your family and your friends the story of Jesus. Have a gospel talk over the ham hocks. Tell them to soak in the story of his sinless life and scandalous death. Talk about the cross in all of its grizzly glory and painful beauty. Tell them:
“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree’” (Gal. 3:13)
And then ask them: “Can this perversion of justice go unrectified?”
Ask them, “Can you hear Justice cry aloud? ‘This Son of Adam must be vindicated! The Son of God must live again!’” Go into the highways and byways of this consumeristic Western world and tell them that Jesus Christ is the only One justified in having an entitlement mentality. He must live again. He alone deserves life.
And live he does.
He is risen, indeed!
“…They put him to death by hanging him on a tree, but God raised him on the third day…And he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead. To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.” (Acts 10:39b-40a, 42-43)
