“Thus says the LORD: Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool.”
John Flavel comments:
“Christians have two kinds of goods: the goods of the throne and the goods of the footstool: immoveables and moveables.”
Christians have the opportunity to enjoy good things of the earth in a way that points them to the enjoyment of greater things of heaven. Christians also have the opportunity to refrain from the enjoyment of those same good things in a way that points them to the enjoyment of greater things in Christ.
Either way, whether in feasting or in fasting, may your heart value the goodness of those things which are heavenly, immovable and enduring above those things which will soon pass away (1 John 2:15-17).
