UPDATE: OK, here is the skinny. The class found out today that Martin Luther began with an innie but ended up with an outie…theology that is. Initially the religious system that Martin Luther was trained in left him looking for righteousness in all the wrong places, namely within himself and within his good works. But Luther came to realize that the righteousness that he lacked within could finally be found if he looked outside of himself to Christ. It was an alien righteousness that Luther needed and could be had through faith alone. “The righteous shall live by faith” (Hab. 2:4; Rom. 1:17; Gal. 3:11; Heb. 10:38).
What God demanded, Christ provided…and that is good news!
Did Martin Luther have an “innie” or an “outie”? Inquiring theological minds want to know! You’ll have to wait for Sunday school at GTCC this week to find out the answer to this question which redirected the course of church history.
Happy Reformation Day!
