Christ, the Everlasting Lord

Our Christmas hymns have some of the most profound theology that man’s mind can grasp. Though he was veil’d in flesh, as the hymn writer puts it, the world did truly come to see the Godhead in Christ who was the everlasting Lord.

“God is not more, and cannot promise more, or do more than Christ is said to be, to promise, and to do. He has, therefore, been the Christian’s God from the beginning, in all ages and in all places.”

Charles Hodge, Systematic Theology, II, p. 382.
